Flushing Synagogue Sold to Real Estate Investors for 37 Million Dollars

Temple Gates of Prayer, a synagogue at 38-20 Parsons Blvd. in Flushing, Queens has been sold to a real estate investor for $37.5 million.

The sold two-story synagogue was built in 1960, when the congregation moved from its Flushing, Amity Street location.  The congregation has roots in Flushing going back to 1901 with the original Temple having been located at Grove Street (now 39th Avenue) and Main Street.

According to property records, an entity linked to Shun Qian Liu is the new owner of the parcel and although an application has yet to be filed with the city’s building department, a 12-story office building is likely to be built there based on the 2018 reporting of City Realty.  That report indicated that Queens-based Angelo Ng & Anthony NG Architects Studio PC had created renderings based on an adjacent parking lot to the Temple that had been acquired in 2006.

In the last decade Flushing real estate development has been quite active as the surrounding area has seen marked economic growth at a rate of 34 percent – more than double Manhattan’s.
