Kane’s Diner, a Flushing restaurant located at 44-15 College Point Boulevard will finally be closing its doors on May 1st after having been in business since 1968.
Local patrons flocked to the diner last night to reminisce in nostalgic memories and comfort food. The wait line to get into eatery ran as long as an hour and ultimately customers had to be turned away as the hamburgers, steaks, and other select items ran out of stock. The diner is owned by siblings George, Patricia and Toni Kane, who said diner was the legacy of their father Ernie. The Kane family indicate they are selling the diner for personal reasons with a list price of $15 million. Toni said the family has formally contracted with Long Island-based Kenny Liu, who has developed several residential buildings in the Flushing area.
The parcel on which the diner sits is quite expansive and with development all along College Point Boulevard many residents in the area expect a multi-storied development to take its place.
